    Reading the colours

Norway uses four colours, and green is the easiest. If you're used to the Alps, where blue is the easiest, step down one colour at first.

Green. Very easy, for first days and small children.
Blue. Easy. Comparable to a gentle Alpine blue.
    Red. Intermediate to demanding.
    Black. Difficult.

The run finder below shows the measured steepest pitch of every run, which tells you more than the colour alone.

Most of these are also in the catalogue, where you can add them to a day.

    Interactive ski map

Every run, lift and cross-country trail on a real topographic map, from OpenStreetMap, with elevations from Kartverket. Tap a run or lift for its length, height and steepest pitch. You can also pick a suggested day, switch to satellite or the night-skiing view, or use your location on the mountain.

All numbered runs with measured length, height and steepness. Tap a row to show it on the map. The steepest pitch is the steepest 60 m stretch, which is what decides whether a run feels hard.

    Timetables

Lifts, the Hafjell bus, restaurants, daylight and travel for each day of your stay. Each table says which season it's based on.

    Safety on the slopes

    • Ski in control and at a speed that fits your ability and the conditions.
    • The skier below you has priority. Overtake with plenty of space.
    • Don't stop where you can't be seen, such as below a ridge or in narrow passages.
    • Look uphill before you set off or join a run.
    • Helmets are standard in Norway, and required for free child passes.
    • Respect closed runs and signs. Snow guns and groomers work on the slopes, also during night skiing.
    • Stay with an injured person, mark the spot with crossed skis above them, and call for help.

What do you want from this trip?

Pick what fits. The catalogue marks matching activities as recommended and sorts them to the top, and the planner uses the same choices to draft a week for you. Your choices are saved in this browser.

    The catalogue

Everything worth doing from your hotel in early January, including things that won't be open. Add anything to a day; days when it isn't available are greyed out.

    Your plan

The first day is arrival and the last is departure, so those are kept light. Events from What's on are shown with a red border. Scroll sideways to see the whole week.
